Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death He might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. Hebrews 2:14-15
All of us want to lock the Door of Death, but we can’t. Each one of us is inexorably drawn by ...
Scripture tells us Jesus was,
“declared to be the Son of God… by His resurrection from the dead.” Romans 1:4
The Holy Spirit, through Paul, tells us that it was the resurrection that “declared” Jesus to be the Son of God. Not that He wasn’t from all eternity, but this was the moment that God affirmed it to the world.
It was the Great Confirmati...
Scripture declares that Jesus was,
“declared to be the Son of God… by his resurrection from the dead” Romans 1:4
Last time, we pondered how the resurrection was the Great Confirmation, affirming everything the Scripture said about Him and all of His words. Now we want to contemplate the rest of this statement by Paul: that it was the resurrection which declared Jesu...
But the Jews were jealous, and taking some wicked men of the rabble, they formed a mob, set the city in an uproar, and attacked the house of Jason, seeking to bring them out to the crowd. And when they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city authorities, shouting, “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also, and Jason has r...
If Jesus Rose from the Dead, then (#15) He Must Have Been Dead and Buried
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures… 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
Mythicists and skeptics attempt to debunk Jesus in a number o...
Because of the resurrection of Jesus, one of the great hopes we have is that we will one day be reunited with our loved ones who have died in Christ: husbands, wives, sons, daughters, family and friends. My father passed away a number of years ago and I still miss him, but he and I will one day laugh together once more.
Is this just some Pollyanna wish or do we have a firm basis for it?

We now arrive at a series of short truth claims that come to us as believers as the result of the resurrection of Jesus. We will deal with two this time and the rest later.
Our sins are forgiven
… if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. 1 Corinthians 15:17
Most people would not say that our sins were forgiven because of the resur...
It is probably true that we do not spend much time pondering the reality that Jesus intercedes for us with the Father. And, I suspect, we seldom, if ever, connect that intercession with the resurrection. However, the Holy Spirit, through Paul, makes that link:
Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died&...
“Because I live, you also will live” John 14:19
I know someone who surrendered his life to Christ because of these very words. They connect, again, the resurrection of Christ with the future hope that we, too, will be raised in like manner… physically. And, it meant, as Paul stated, that Jesus was the “firstfruits” of those who would be raised from the dead.

It’s hard to stop looking at the photo: a dad and his daughter. She was gunned down while in school in Nashville this week. Nine years old. A horrible tragedy that I can’t get out of my mind. Not only because of what the parents are going through, but the stupidity of our culture.
I know that it is bad form today to use the word stupid. The Bible doesn’t shy from this:
