Twenty-six students took their seats in the old Truth Project classroom, restyled now for a new purpose. A great crew and a host of other folks that had been working for months brought a slew of complex, individual pieces together for this first day of filming.
Dr. Stephen Meyer then walked to the front of the classroom and TrueU began.
Produced by Focus on the Family in conjunction with Coldwater Media, TrueU is an apologetics training series primarily geared to help prepare high-school students for the rigorous challenges and attacks that will confront them on the university campus. My guess is that it will end up benefiting a whole lot more folks that just high-school seniors.
The first set, consisting of ten 30-minute lessons will focus on the question of God’s existence. It will look at recent mathematical, physical and biological findings that provide a compelling case against the common argument that belief in God is just a blind leap of faith.
The second set, similar in size, will focus on the charges leveled against the Bible. It will examine recent finds in archaeology and historiography that will help build a confidence in students that the old attacks by biblical skeptics are just that—old and out of date in light of sound scientific examination.
Plans for sets three and four are underway and, if the Lord provides, will be filmed later this year. The first set will be released early this Fall.
I would like to chronicle this filming—a sort of daily report of what has happened in the classroom, reviewing the content and its impact upon the students.
See you tomorrow for Saturday, Day 1.

Thank you so much for doing this! It will be nice to be somewhat prepared before fully entering into the world full-force.
I just finished the Truth Project with my group and have learned a lot. Thank you so much for working on that as well! May God bless you and the crew throughout your new work.
Dear Dr. Tackett,
I’m very encouraged and excited by and about this project! My daughter is a sophomore this year and my son is three years behind her. I’m looking so forward to giving them the benefit of this blessed program.
Our children need this so badly!
I pray that you and your team continue under the blessings and guidance of our Holy God through His Son, our Saviour. Amen…
In Christ,
Dan…
I’m so excited about this new project…. my daughter will be starting college next year.
I’m looking forward to this - another excellent tool produced by Focus on the Family and Coldwater Media! Great idea to chronicle the process. This is just such powerful stuff - TRUTH! I’ve just started leading my third Truth Project small group and am even more excited than when I was a participant in the first one 2 years ago! Thank you, Dr. Tackett, for letting God work through you to provide us with such an incredibly effective ministry tool for transforming lives and setting the Body of Christ free.
Awesome - I can hardly wait! Truth Project was life changing and this will be too.
Del:
People from all ages can benefit from this program. Some people begin their spiritual growth early in life while others begin in their later years.
I can also see how these film sets will be a valuable tool in youth ministry. These film sets will prepare our youth so they will not be so easy to fool when faced with peer pressure or when approached with another gospel.
I am very much looking forward to when the DVD’s for these sets are available for purchase and the supporting study materials for the tours within each set are available for download from the Truth Project WEB site.
Thanks, Del. When we did the Truth Project at my church, people kept referring to their public school education and saying, “but I always thought….but I learned in school…”.
TrueU is the logical next step from the truth project, to meet secularism at its roots. I attended and then worked with Worldview Academy, a worldviews and leadership summer camp for high school students, for many years. I remember at 17 the impact that Worldview training had on me, that forceful realization that I didn’t have to protect an eggshell-weak faith…that it could stand up to questions, doubts, fears, and that God wasn’t scared of those big questions about life.
It was literally a watershed realization and changed the whole direction of my life. I hope that this program creates opportunities to do the same thing for students.
Thanks Del for filming this series! I can’t wait to go through them with my high school small group who will be seniors next year. It will be the perfect send off as they head out for college in 2010.
We’re literally finishing the final tour this week, and this was a great vindication of my faith and reinforcement of a world view without meekness. TrueU is a great next step.
Our population of students are being thrust into an environment where Christians have left a vacuum, and we need them to be fortified against the mistaken, the obscure, and the deliberate falsehoods that pervade.
I cannot begin to tell you how excited we are that you are putting this project together!! We have recently completed our own small group study of The Truth Project (we have been wanting to do the study since you first released it!!), and will leading our own groups soon. Once you have completed this new project and have released it, we will start leading groups for that study as well. So excited. I pray that God will bless you every step of the way, and that the lessons taught will be just as amazing as in the original Truth Project lectures and discussions. I just can’t say enough good things about this series, and how many people it has helped. God bless all of you for sharing the Truth in such a passionate and honorable way.
This sounds awesome. I hope I shall be able to take advantage of it.
This information brought tears to my eyes. The Truth Project is a wonderful starting point for personal research but is a little heady for youth. They find it difficult to sit for an hour (probably due to being raised in a “sound-byte” world)I recieve this news gladly.
I am so stoked about this series!!! Thank you so much for sharing this filming experience with us. Thank you, Del, and Focus on the Family for the Truth Project and TrueU.
Soli Deo Gloria!
Dr. Tackett, we have been excited about this program since you mentioned it during your visit last month. Our teens are hungry for truth and I can’t wait for my daughter to be able to watch this. Kids from our youth group have gone to college and come home confused and uncertain about truth and how it relates to our faith. God bless you and bless this work!
I can’t wait for this - totally excited to see this project/program when it’s all finished! The Truth Project has been a huge, life changing event for so many of the adults who’ve watched the series, I know this will benefit our youth!
I attended the Truth Project Seminar July before last and have conducted/ participated in three Truth Project small groups - I can’t wait to lead a teen group.
Don’t be cryptic with us! “Plans for 3 & 4 are under way and if the Lord provides..” Tell the Church your needs, tell the Lord your needs! We want to help.
Our church noticed this need and took our graduated seniors on a retreat with current and grad. adults for some real talk, It was great, and I hope useful. Your series would have been more entertaining and in depth. Please let us know how and when we can get this.
I am very excited about this project. This will be a great tool to help prepare our youth for what they will face in college and beyond.
We just finished doing the Truth Project with 10 wonderful young people and we are all so excited to view the TrueU DVD’s that we can hardly wait!! Thank you so much for having the insight to realize how much of a challenge it is to hold onto your convictions when you enter college/university. I am a returning student and although I am very firm in my beliefs I found myself getting so frustrated at having to defend myself and my beliefs. This type of curriculum with give college students a arsenal for their future classroom discussions!!
THANK YOU! This is going to be such a blessing to so many students. I am so excited about the possibilities ahead to present this to the students at our school! Many blessings and keep leading us in THE TRUTH!
GREAT As a retired teacher, and YCI area coordinator working with youth and youth ministers…have been waiting anxiously for this since Apologetics Conference in Nov !!! Really enjoyed THE TRUTH PROJECT and cannot wait to purchase this set for our youth . THANKS SO MUCH for caring and sharing. z
I can’t wait for this to be released. My youth group is going to love this! Thank you for creating this project.
What a truly excellent follow up this will be to “The Truth Project” which I’ve been privileged to teach two times to eager recipients, and several groups branching out from there. May God bless this endeavor to reach our youth as they launch into higher education and careers. My prayer is that it will be great in its power to convince many about truth as they face the challenges of academia. Dr. Ken
Thank you for this blessing! We had heard this might happen and it is an answer to prayer! We look forward to using this with our daughter and her friends, as well as our church youth.
YES!!! I have been praying for this! As I was going through the Truth Project Series, I kept wishing there was one for the kids. And here is comes! THANK YOU!
We took 4 midschool/high school students through the Truth Project along with their parents. It was a wonderful experience. I can’t wait to get my hands on this program.
Thank you for this program, it is an answer to prayer. We have been praying for material to use with High School students who are preparing to enter the hostile arena of the secular universities. God bless your team….
As a five time leader/host/facilitator of The Truth Project, and a retired lawyer, I cannot express the joy of watching lives being transformed through the Holy Spirit’s work in the lives of so many. We look forward to TrueU as a wonderful format for our inquisitive and fabulous Christian Youth.
This is exactly what we need for our high schoolers! (Among others…) I hope filming goes quickly!!!!!!
I met you in Phoenix last year at the Truth Project training and told you of my teaching the truth project to my high school students and how it has impacted their worldview and their ability to use the materials in the college career. Thanks Del for producing this kind of work especially for the high school level. I have taught many high school classes since the truth project started in Boston. My students enjoyed the teaching and the interaction we had after viewing the lessons. I cannot wait to view these new courses!
We have just completed the Truth Project with airmen here in Germany…their eyes were opened. This new project “TrueU” will impact many lives… including our leaders of tomorrow. Those airmen that know Christ as their savior have shared how their faith has been tested since leaving home and entering the military. They are looking for answers…looks like this will be a great learning tool for them to be prepared for the world. Thank you for following God’s call on your lives and encouraging others to seek and find the truth that only comes from God.
We would be honored to share TrueU with the airmen here in Germany.
Del:
It is so heartening to see you doing this for young people! And it is even better for me to know that my son has had a chance to participate in this project. He works as a still photographer and graphic designer and he told me about the filming and how excited he was to be part of it. My son has done quite well for himself, but he’s never had the opportunity to go to college. Just by being part of the filming, though, I’m quite sure he’s getting an education in important areas that can help provide assurance and guidance to him as he attempts to live his life as a young Christian professional.
It also makes me more grateful that I had the opportunity to go to a Christian college (I won’t name that college here, but suffice to say that it is a small, Presbyterian college in Georgia that showcased the work of the late apologist Dr. Francis Shaeffer) in order to sift through these worldview issues. Perhaps with your TrueU series in mind, Christian young people will begin to see that Christianity is a whole-life commitment that not only includes the heart and fostering relationships and great worship but also the stimulation and engagement of the mind in the world for the sake of Christ’s kingdom.
Recently finished two different Truth Project small groups. Everyone was extremely complimentary on the quality and content of the DVD’s. Most of us have children ranging from grade school to college age. We eagerly await the TrueU material to share with them and others. We are also sharing the Truth Project with our high school and above age children. A standing ovation for Dr. Tackett and FOF for putting this material together.
This is just what is needed today. I’ve seen other curriculum that attempt to equip our children with the Truth before they hit the liberal college scene and the world at large, but they all lack ‘teen’ appeal. I pray the small segments designed to stimulate discussion will ‘hit the spot’! Blessings to you, Del, and the entire project!
What a great tool for our youth!! We finished The Truth Project a couple of months ago and was considering showing it to our senior high youth…THIS is perfect!! Thank you for your ministry and we’ll be praying for your ongoing filming and distribution!
Fantastic news Del! I am reminded of Matthew 9:12, “Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do.” Unfortunately for humanity, University life has become infected with the disease of sin. It is such a challenge for young Christian’s to go, trying to better themselves in what often amounts to dens of iniquities.
How do you envision TruthU being led? Are you planning through Home/Small Groups?
Dr. Tackett,
Having watched the Truth Project in my home group, I was encouraged to see the Big Dig coming and now this. My daughter is 15 and loves the Lord, but I would like to God glorify Himself through this project also. Way to go FOTF.
I just read the two previous posts(one from Bob and one from Charlene). I also have Bob’s question and echo Charlene’s statement.
The Truth Project was a phenomenal study for me and I have led it several times with fantastic results. I think that especially for high schoolers that don’t have a good support base at home, TrueU will offer the stability and encouragement these young adults are searching for. Thank you Del Tackett for the role model and teacher you are and for having a true heart for God.
This project sounds wonderful. I must tell you that the Truth Project was stunningly transforming. I shall never be the same - how could I?
I pray the blessings of God on all the work in which Focus is involved… making a difference for the kingdom in the here and now - just when we need it most. Praise God.
Mary
Dr. Tackett … this is going to be a fantastic resource. And the TrueU Promo video linked from the The Truth Project E-Newsletter is dynamite. Where can I get a full-resolution rendering to show on the big screens at our church (as a promo for The Big Dig)?
Soli Deo Gloria!
Dear Dr Tackett,
PTL! So glad that a teen version is being developed of The Truth Project. I have been teaching it in churches and home groups since I first went to your seminar in Atlanta in 2006. While I have attemped to use it in Christian schools I have yet to be sucessful in doing so because of the time constaints with the present Truth Project.
Dr. Tackett,
Please forgive me, I am woefully amiss; this is the first that I had heard of TrueU, because I had not been reading your news letters.
This is a wonderful concept; I will be looking for more information to make my grand children aware.
As wonderful as the truth project is, I was hoping that there would be some sort of follow-on.
Philip
Just finished the 12 tours with 4 families and 7 teenagers. I am looking forward to the 10 30-minutes lessons that will be better geared for teens. I could repeat the series many times before getting it all. The side material is extensive and the search for truth continues.
Del,
Thank you. I spoke with you about coming up with a program specifically for children at a leader training program at Woodbridge, Virginia in September, 2006. This news (TrueU) is heaven-sent!
Since my wife and I attended your session, we have hosted 5 small groups on TTP. Several of those who attended our sessions have led groups of their own. We have viewed the entire TTP DVD set 7 times now…it gets better every time!
I work at a Christian day school (PK-12) where our MS and HS students all are required to take Bible (from 7-12.) I have just read your email and will forward it to our HS Chaplain (also the 12th grade Bible teacher) so he can think and pray about incorporating some or all of this into his curriculum for next year.
One other idea for you to consider…how about a 30- to 45-minute parents’ overview video of TrueU? It could be shown to parents at the beginning of the school year, so they know what to expect and as a means to promote family dialogue at home about TrueU (and TTP, for that matter.) The family that focuses together, stays together, right?
SDG!
Del, looks like good things are in store.
Thanks! May God bless; and “stick to the Scriptures.” Jack
I work in a small church and am a Truth Project leader. Two other Projects are also being held. The Truth Project is a life-changing experience. I am champing at the bit for True-U and learning of the presentation plans for it. Thank you for intervening in our lives with the Truth.
Thanks for the update. I am a youth pastor in Silicon Valley. Our teenage kids are talking about the world view of sex, relationships and God. I’ve been searching for a straightforward series that will help our kids take the next step in their lives - college. Can’t wait to see it.
Had to share it with a friend who’s got 2 girls
ready to enter that field. Me. My grandson’s
9yo, being raised by us, and I’m inexplicitly
excited about the future and what Jesus has in
store in ALL the approaching years.
Thanks Del and Focus
Del,
This is good news for the residents in my youth correctional facility. Several have plans on college after finishing their time here. The TrueU concept is even better suited for youth 15 to 21 than The Truth project. The project is over the heads of many youth in corrections, often who have been studted in their maturity.
Keep me posted! I may change and do this in my groups in the resident lodges if they are short! I am understanding these are also stand alone segments. If so - even better!
Chap
Thank you for all you are doing!
On my first day of college my social science teacher “taught” on the subject, “what is truth”. He lectured, then asked us to write an essay at the end of class. If we said anything more definitive than “truth is whatever you decide it to be”, we missed his point.
I was actually being drawn to the Lord at the time, but did not stand up to opposing views. I made the grade in his class.
At the end of the semester we were told to “do something you’ve always wanted to do,but never have”. I took LSD, then didn’t even write the assigned paper but went into his office and told him about my experience. I got an A.
A few months later, I was born again. (Praise GOD!) I went back to the college and spoke with all my instructors, telling them what Jesus had done for and in me. This instructor was not (visibly) moved, but who knows?
That was all 38 years ago, and I’ve never looked back from following Jesus!
I’m so thankful for the work you, and all the staff, have done in putting together The Truth Project for this time. God bless you!
Janet
Dr. Tackett,
Thank you so much for the work that you and all the people at Focus have been doing. I’m a high school senior, and my dad and I were able to attend one of your Truth Project seminars in the fall, it has been very life-shaping for our family as well as for the group that we have lead. I was so excited to hear about the TrueU project that has been undertaken! What an amazing ministry; as a high schooler/soon to be university student this is something that we really need. So many teens don’t really know what they believe, or don’t have the knowledge or confidence to back it up. I’ve had an amazing family that has invested these values in me, but I know not everyone has that, and I’ve seen so many of my friends struggle along the way because they don’t ever gain a strong footing of their faith. Thank you so much for the work that you and Focus have done with both the Truth Project and this upcoming one; I pray that God will bless it all.
Dr. Tackette,
We have finished hosting the “Truth Project” for the fourth time. Every time I watched the series I have learned more and more. I am excited, and so are many others, about the new project. All of us who have been in the groups will for sure watch and learn from the new series. I am grateful for the new series.Sounds like believers of any age can grow from the new series, or even the believer who has just begun to take in the Word daily, and apply it to their lives.
We are looking forward purchase the new study.
Because He lives,
Elaine
Phil. 1:3-6
I have not been keeping up here, so I was not even aware of this project!
I cannot wait to find a job again so I can afford to purchase this. I’m dying to see it!
this is awesome i mean it. DR.Stephen Myer is the real deal. Man i need to get to work, u know what i mean. TRUTH Matters!!! Truth b definition is Exclusive!!!
