Where have you been?

My deep apologies for being so absent. I haven’t been home much this year.

The first week in January, I was at Sea Island, Georgia, debating Michael Novak on the “Secularization of America”. Next, I was in Vero Beach, Florida at King’s Baptist Church where the pastor and leadership have taken the entire church through the Truth Project. What amazing testimonies we heard! Then to Phoenix where we held a Truth Project training conference, spoke at the Center for Arizona Policy, met with the Pastor & leadership of Scottsdale Bible Church, Q&A with the congregation who were also going through the Truth Project. Then, Tuscon and ditto at Catalina Foothills Church. Then Fellowship Community Church–another Q&A with a congregation that had been going through the Truth Project and preaching twice on Sunday.

Well throw in several other trips to Atlanta and Naples, Florida (I just returned from there late last night) and it has been a whirlwind year so far.

But the absolute ‘biggie’ was our trip to Israel. We got back Wednesday, washed our clothes, repacked, got a few hours sleep, and then left at 6am to catch the plane to Naples. I think my body is still on Jerusalem time, so it is entirely possible that this blog is somewhere south of incoherent. israel-mr-arbel-1.jpg

I know that many of you have been to Israel, but this was the first time for me. It was amazing, awesome, sobering, eye-opening, etc. etc. etc. I want to…no, I need to write about it. So, beware, it is coming.

Thank you for all of your notes of encouragement and prayers.

P.S. I took this picture on the top of Mount Arbel…which overlooks the Sea of Galilee. It was a deeply moving moment for me…one of many.

What a beautiful scene. I am looking forward to hearing about your experience. We are soon to be members of Scottsdale Bible Church and, unfortunately, were unable to attend your Truth Project program.

    Major Bummer!

    Del:
We too had the same reactions to our trip to Israel. All the same adjectives, the same feelings. If you can describe your feelings and reactions in less than 10,000 words, you can claim the medal as a man of few words.

    Write away…..right away!
I cannot wait to hear about that trip, I’m glad you’re back, but what would you teach us if you never went anywhere or did anything but blog?
God Bless you Del, I’ll make my way there someday too, your stories and memories will encourage me I’m sure.
    Sincerely,
    Tom S

Glad you’re home safe and looking forward to reading all about Israel. I have never been there but pray someday the Lord will provide a way.

Our church has just started “The Truth Project”. My husband and I were blessed to be one of the couples that got to have a preview of the project and saw about six episodes. Very powerful!!

Welcome back! Since you are just down the road in Naples, swing by King’s Baptist this weekend! (Said with a smile of course).

Happy Easter to you and your family!

    Good Morning Del!
I am so glad to hear you made it to (and back from) Israel. I went there about three years ago and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about some part of that trip. I’m certain you will have a similar experience. The Sea of Galilee changed me forever. We stayed in a Kibbutz on the south shore. I sat there on the shoreline one afternoon for hours reading and re-rereading every story in the Bible regarding that place and the things Jesus did there. The words came to life right before my eyes and ever since I find myself missing that place terribly.

Having been to Israel and getting a visual context in my head for the Scriptures has been one of the greatest enhancers to my understanding of God’s Word and really adds to what I am able to teach and share with my small group. I pray that it has a similar effect upon you as well.

I also just returned from my first trip to Washington D.C. as well as Monticello. The Truth Project lessons on History, The State, and the American Experiment were my inspiration to go and see for myself the things you talked about. That trip also had a profound effect on me and greatly enriched my admiration for what our forefathers accomplished (especially Thomas Jefferson) and opened my eyes as well to how far we have fallen as a nation. Thomas Jefferson was an amazing man, did amazing things, and yet… was still just a man with all the sins and faults as the rest of us. I look forward to being able to share those experiences as well as I start leading my third small group voyage through TTP beginning on April 8th. It just keeps getting better every time. Thanks again Del and God Bless you and your truck! I totally understand where you’re coming from.

    Going after “the One”,
