Samantha: you asked me to comment on Independence Day …and so I did.
I hope all of you had a wonderful fourth of July. My Dad loves barbequed ribs and so we devoured some of the best ever and ended up watching two separate firework shows—one at the U.S. Air Force Academy and on our way home, we were surprised that a new housing development was just starting theirs. We pulled over and were close enough to feel the percussion of the explosions in our chests. That’s what I call getting a “feel” for the holiday.
Dieter: I owe you big time. I had one more sink to replace and took your great advice. Installing the faucets first made the job a breeze! Not only that, but it caused me to sit down first and ask other “sequencing” questions. I ended up putting both faucets, the spout and the drain on first. Then I attached the water hoses while the “cave” was fairly empty—that was so much easier. I installed the stopper and then the trap drain last. Now, I know that most of you could care less about all of this, but from start to finish it was about an hour and a half—clearly less than one-third of the time before. Next time you’re in Colorado, I’ll buy you an ice cream cone!
To an unknown reader: The administrator didn’t post your comments but you obviously have a great distaste for God and those who follow Him. I wish we could dialogue. It is true that men have acted wickedly in the name of Christ. But to imply that this is the single cause of war and problems in the world is to ignore the preponderance of the evidence. Though it may satisfy some inward animosity to think so, the facts don’t support it. The millions who have been slaughtered and oppressed by those who believed in man-made gods or nothing higher than themselves simply staggers the mind. I would ask you to consider the facts concerning just the social impact that Christianity has had on culture. I know there are Christians who don’t act as they should, but we have been called to have compassion for the needy and, for the most part, have done so. We rescued discarded Roman babies out of the river; we built orphanages and safe-houses; we erected hospitals; called for the end of slavery; sparked modern science, etc.
I would like to challenge you to read Alvin J. Schmidt’s book, “How Christianity Changed the World” for the hard evidence in opposition to what you currently believe.
Let me know what you think.
By the way, I understand there are a lot of weddings today. Somehow people believe that it is going to be a lucky day: 777. I wonder if anyone got married on June 6th last year?

Hi Del, First off I want to say thank you for putting together such a powerful series of tapes as “The Truth Project.” My wife and I lost our 19 year old son Alex in an automobile accident this past March. Needless to say we are still devestated by his death. Our faith and those whom we worship with is the single most important thing that has helped us to get through this to this day. There is so far to go. Yet, four of my sons friends are meeting with us every Sunday evening to eat and to watch a DVD of the series. Only one of them has a real background in christianity and yet they eagerly await each new DVD. Making sure we don’t interfer with the work God is doing is the most difficult part of our responsibility in this. I just wanted to thank you for providing the series and let you know that God is working on the hearts of each of these young people. What a joy it has been thus far to be a part of this. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! In HIS name, Dan and Anne
I was married on 8/8/04, and being mathematically minded, I was highly delighted about the mathematical beauty and simplicity of the date. It also helps that if I had to choose a favorite number, it would be 8.
didn’t even think about it when we chose our date 8.11.07 I am rather fond of that date only b/c it will be our date, but don’t really want to put my luck in numbers…
Dr. Tackett,
I just read the blog concerning your father. Please know he will be in my prayers.
My husband and I have been blessed by watching each DVD of the Truth Project at least 5 times. We have done groups in our home and at church and we always watch them before doing the group again. You are truly a gifted teacher.

Dear Dr. Tackett,
I just read your reply to the unknown reader. How sad. I am currently reading How Christianity Changed the World and it is absolutely wonderful. Thank you for recommending it on the Truth Project. It is absolutely amazing that we have not been taught these historical facts in school. (and I was a teacher for 35 years) I hope this person takes your advice and reads the book.
