Absent

I feel I owe an explanation for being absent lately.
We are in the midst of our summer semester at the Institute. We have 88 incredible students from all over the nation, including South Africa, Japan, Canada, and Australia. Someday I will describe what goes on at the Institute, but believe me it is amazing. The Lord not only does His deep and wonderful work within their hearts and minds, but he also knits them together in a unity that one must see to believe. It is a privilege to work with them.
Anyway, my two-week teaching portion of this semester consists of helping them understand the reality and beauty of God’s design for social order. Class runs all morning and I usually follow that with a sixty-minute “Open Forum” where students can ask any question on any subject. Those times are some of my favorites.
The afternoons are set aside for half-hour mentoring meetings with individual students where we can deal with personal questions or issues or just get to know each other better.
There is a lot more than just the academic side, however, including hiking, white water rafting, etc. And tonight, we will gather as a class for dinner at a beautiful spot up in the mountains.
Well, in the midst of this, we conducted a Truth Project conference last weekend. Nearly 1200 people attended from forty-one states and a number of nations. We had five friends fly in to attend the conference and they have been staying with us. That means wonderful mornings and evenings of fellowship.
However, with students and classes and house guests and conferences in between…well, that doesn’t leave time for much else, so I have been absent from this forum. And, I have to tell you, I miss it! I have followed some of the comments and conversation threads and will be responding soon.
As for now…I need to get ready for class…

I miss the classes. I find myself referring back to them often. It’s not even an intentional thing…someone says or asks something, there’s a conversation going on, or something in the news & media jogs a memory of one of my classes at the Institute and what I was taught there. What a blessing!
Thanks for the part you played (and continue to play) in that experience,

We missed you too, Dr. Tackett. I am following your posts with great fascination, however, I wholly understand that you are most likely a very sought after person at the moment : )
I also know how easy it can be to get too busy doing and not simply being…I’m sure you know that, but a reminder never hurts!
Welcome back.
Dear Dr. Taggett,
When I click on your Worldview blog, I get the same results as the Personal blog. I hope you will be including worldview content soon. I think what you are doing is exciting and critical to the work missions in the future. Missionaries without a Biblical worldview have no amunition or defenses to withstand the onslaught of very aggressive opposition around the world today. Maybe you could start by discussing how we can “wake up” evangelical pastors to this need. I need all the help I can get in communicating this to my own pastors.

Dr. Tackett!! Wow… You know how much I miss that summer? You’re right, people from all over the world was there, and I will never forget what an amazing family I had there, even through the loss of my father (as I’m sure you remember). Never have I witnessed such Christian unity.. it is SO amazing what happens when God is the center of a community
Praise God! I hope and pray all is well with you
