Last week: Phoenix and Salt Lake City

I just returned from two inspiring trips.
The first was to Phoenix. I look forward to this every year because it gives me the opportunity and privilege to address about a hundred Christian law students gathered together from all over the nation for the Blackstone Legal Fellowship. This is an intensive summer program designed to develop a distinctively Christian worldview within our future attorneys and to inspire them to engage popular culture and the legal system from that conviction and perspective. Quite a vision, no? I have often stated that there are a few key vocations that have an inordinate impact upon our culture. This is one. I am privileged to be a part of the effort to redeem it.
Afterwards, my wife and I drove to the top of one of the south mountains and took this picture overlooking Phoenix. The temperature was 109 degrees at the time.

The second trip was to Salt Lake City for our 15th Truth Project training conference. We were hosted by The Fellowship Church and Standing Together. The facility was packed with wonderful folks, very warm and engaging. At one point during the conference, in somewhat of a passing question, I asked “What is the book of Jonah about?” Someone from the audience shouted: “The first submarine!” I had never heard that before!
Although we were plagued with a host of technical difficulties, it was a great conference. The Lord is greatly blessing this work of His.
On Sunday, we visited K2 Church and I was deeply inspired by David Nelson’s message. It was the first of a series entitled: “What Does God Do All Day?” Before you run off thinking this is an impertinent question, consider Jesus’ words in one of the key verses Pastor Nelson used, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.” (John 5:17)
What is this “work” that our Father is “always” doing? David then took us on a delightful tour, gazing upon this aspect of God. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Afterwards, we had a few hours before our flight departed, so we drove up into the mountains north of Salt Lake to Snowbird. My great friend, Grant and I, took a tram to the top of one of the peaks there. This is what we saw.
And one called out to another and said,” Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, the whole earth is full of His glory.” Isa 6:3

Wow!This is both for the conferences and what happened and the great pictures you took!
Our Father astounds me with the grandeur and beauty of His creation. Yet, it pales in comparison to the beauty of eternity with Him….Rev 22:3-5
“No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light.”
Soli Deo Gloria
Thanks for sharing the Truth Project with us in Salt Lake City. I watched your 1st DVD last night and plan on watching all 12 in preparation for the fall small group semester at K2. Please pray for Salt Lake and for those of us who attended the Truth Project to help “testify the truth”.
Dr. Tackett,
Your blog is the next best thing to either sitting in class or in your office chatting with you. I greatly appreciate the way God is using you and the gifts He blessed you with. I’m leading my 2nd Truth Project and thoroughly enjoying it. Because of both you and Dr. Leland, I am pursuing an MA in Apologetics this fall and hoping to teach in some form in the future. Looking forward to seeing you again someday. May God bless you as you continue to serve Him. By the way, fantastic photos.
For God’s Glory,
Jon
Dr. Tackett,
What a great experience that must have been. As I looked at the pictures from Utah I was thinking of how God has left such fingerprints for us to discover, yet those prints are at the hub of Mormonism. It makes me wonder about the decline of Christianity in America. Some now say that America is the most religious country in the world, but is the most biblically illiterate as well. With that thought, I would like to know your thoughts of Bible classes being taught in the public schools. This a growing issue and even Time magazine put this issue on its cover. What are your thoughts? Thanks and have a blessed day.

Thank you for sharing the Truth Project with us in Salt Lake City. I feel like I’ve been infused with a pure dose of Truth, and I am more hungry for God’s word than I’ve ever been. Truly, He is an amazing God. Thanks for challenging my mind with these concepts. I am truly grateful!
